From an educator's point of view who teaches in an inclusion setting, here is some information that can help teachers who are currently teaching in an inclusive environment and those who are preparing to teach in an inclusion environment understand that you are not alone in your attitude.

Teachers are concern with being inadequately prepared to teach in an inclusion setting.


The problem statement:  Teachers feel that training is inadequate for teaching students in an inclusion setting therefore; they feel inadequately prepared to teach students in an inclusive environment.
The purpose of the study is to determine whether  inadequate training affects teachers attitude while working in an inclusive environment. The following questions that lead the study are:

1. What are the factors that influence teachers' perception toward teaching in an inclusion setting?
2. How does the attitudes of teachers affect the performance of students with a disability?
3. What is the relationship between inadequate training for teachers in an inclusion setting and academic achievement?

I like that you have moved your direction towards teacher training as opposed to student success! With regard to your problem statement, you really brought up two issues: inadequate training and feelings of inadequacy towards teaching. I think your problem statement should focus solely on the feelings of inadequacy (if you have evidence to support this) and then the purpose statement should focus on whether or not teachers are adequately prepared.

  2. This is a great topic. I must admit that I am one of those teachers who hold my breath and hope it's not me this year that has the inclusion class due to training. Although we do have these one hour sessions every few months, really what is that gonna do. Good luck with finding the answer!
